Abstract

Background & Methods: The aim of the study is to study to assess the Serum ferritin level served as a screening test in alcoholic liver disease. Initial investigations included a full blood count, liver function test, USG abdomen, GGTP & serum ferritin. Serum ferritin level was measured by an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. DF score were taken after routine tests. Results: Mean age in both the groups & it is statistically insignificant. We have compared liver function parameters like Total bilirubin, direct & indirect bilirubin, total proteins statistically insignificant. Serum albumin, GGT & ferritin were significantly increased in cases when compared to controls with p<0.05. Conclusion: Serum ferritin level in alcoholic & non-alcoholic liver disease were measured in total 40 subjects, 20 subjects in each group. Serum ferritin level was significantly increased in alcoholic group as compared to non-alcoholic group. The serum ferritin in alcoholic group was significantly correlated with GGTP. Therefore, the combined measurement of serum ferritin & GGTP values prove useful screening with high mortality & morbidity index in chronic alcoholic liver disease.
