SODIUM BICARBONATE INFUSION: TO PREVENT CARDIAC SURGERY ASSOCIATED ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY
DOI:

Acute kidney injury, cardiac surgery, sodium bicarbonate, cardiopulmonary bypass.Abstract
Introduction:Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and severe postoperative complication in
patients undergoing cardiac surgery with an incidence varying from 36.3 to 52.0%. With
increasing interest, this topic has been specifically referred to as cardiac surgery-associated acute
kidney injury (CSA-AKI). CSA-AKI could contribute to increased in-hospital mortality, 5-year
mortality, 30-day readmission, requirement for renal replacement therapy (RRT), ICU length of
stay, and total postoperative cost.
