Background: Chronic anal fissure is a debilitating condition often associated with chronic constipation and rectal bleeding. Surgical intervention, particularly lateral internal sphincterotomy, is commonly employed when conservative measures fail. However, concerns
over postoperative complications, such as fecal incontinence, have led to the exploration of alternative techniques, such as lateral internal sphincterotomy with V-Y advancement flap. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of two surgical approaches: lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) versus lateral internal sphincterotomy with V-Y advancement flap (LIS-VY) in the treatment of chronic anal fissure.
