Abstract

Endoscopic DCR is a surgical procedure to drain the lacrimal sac in instances of instrasaccular and postsaccular obstruction. The most common causes of failure of dacryocystorhinostomy are obstruction of the rhinostomy site and of the common canaliculus. Therefore some authorities postulated that intubation of the nasolacrimal system during dacryocystorhinostomy may prevent closure and scarring of rhinostoma whereas some authors do not support stenting. A bicanalicular silicone tube is the stent most often used in DCR procedures to prevent obliteration of the rhinostomy opening. As an alternative method to silicon intubation, several other materials have been used.
