Background
Infections are a common and significant challenge in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), leading to
widespread use of antimicrobial agents (AMAs) for both prophylaxis and treatment.
Critically ill patients are especially susceptible to infections due to factors like invasive
procedures, immune compromise, and cross-contamination, making effective antimicrobial
management essential. However, the frequent use of AMAs also increases the risk of
polypharmacy and antimicrobial resistance.
