Background: Most of the previous studies in DKA focused on precipitating factors and its management
and limited studies were done on various factors in DKA which influence its prognosis specifically in
correlation to duration of insulin infusion.
Aim: To study the influence of metabolic derangements and sepsis on prognosis in DKA.
Materials and methods: This was a hospital based single centered prospective cross-sectional study to
assess the factors associated with increased duration of insulin infusion in pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis
patients. Based on the eligibility criteria, a total of 50 children with DKA were recruited over a period of
18 months.
