Background: Varicose veins are a common condition that affects 20–30% of adults.
Sclerotherapy, surgery (often consisting of stripping and ligation of the long or short
saphenous veins and phlebectomies), and ablation are the primary treatment options
available in the event that symptoms continue to be present (by laser or radiofrequency
ablation). The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of treating
varicose veins with saphenofemoral ligation and foam sclerotherapy in comparison to
treating varicose veins with saphenofemoral ligation and stripping.
