Abstract

The paper explores the psychoanalytical and neuropathological development of the
Freudian theory of Nachträglichkeit in Amrik Singh’s doctoral thesis to help alleviate the
psychosomatic problems of the victims of trauma. The paper chronologically elucidates the
stimulus of Charles Darwin, Jean-Martin Charcot, Josef Breuer, and Friedrich Nietzsche on
Freud’s comprehension of neurosis, psychosis and Nachträglichkeit along latter’s prodigious
impact on the life and the works of Alfred W. Adler, Carl Gustav Jung, Anna Freud, Jacques
Lacan, Erik Erikson, Jacques Derrida, Dominik LaCabra, and Zizek Slavoj.
