Abstract

The enzyme prolidase (EC 3.4.13.9), encoded by the PEPD gene, is a member of the MMP family, hydrolyzes the imidodipeptides at the C-terminal proline or hydroxyproline. Hence, prolidase is critical for the turnover of proline and  hydroxyproline-rich proteins, such as collagen. Collagen metabolism is essential for matrix regeneration during cellular proliferation
