Abstract

Millets are earliest crops of mankind holds a lot of significance in Indian farming, Millets were among the foremost cultivated crops and group of cereals which belongs to poaceae family, generally known as grass family. It is extensively cultivated and consumed in India and other developing countries, earliest domestication of common millets in East Asia extended to 10,000 years back. The most popular and well accepted Indian millet is pearl millet called as Bajra in Hindi and Sajje in Kannada, second most widely grown and consumed millet in India is Foxtail millet called Kangni or Kakum in Hindi and Navane or Navanakki in Kannada.
