Abstract

Background: Hypercapnic acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) significantly impact patient outcomes, with disturbances in serum electrolytes and acid-base balance playing crucial roles in clinical management. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study included 120 patients with COPD exacerbations admitted to SNMMCH, Dhanbad. We assessed the relationship between serum electrolytes, acid-base balance, and the necessity for non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Data on serum sodium, potassium, arterial blood gases, and NIV usage were collected and analyzed using Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis.
