Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a major public health issue fueled by the rising prevalence of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome, is linked to increased liver-related and cardiovascular risks. NAFLD affects over one-third of adults in the U.S. and about 30% in Europe and Asia, ranging from benign steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH can lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. There is growing evidence of a strong association between NAFLD, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular disease (CVD), especially among T2DM patients prone to diabetic cardiomyopathy.
