Abstract

Background: Preterm birth is a major contributor to perinatal mortality and morbidity, and one of the leading causes of infant mortality in India. Tocolysis allows delay in delivery by arresting uterine contractions during an episode of preterm labour. Nifedipine is an effective tocolytic agent with minimal side-effects. Aim: To determine the efficacy and safety of nifedipine as a tocolytic agent in preterm labour and assess its effect on maternal, foetal and neonatal outcomes.
