Abstract

Background: Present study was conducted in Department of Pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology of Rainbow children’s hospital, Hyderabad, India. It was conducted over the period of one year from March 2022 to February 2023 with study population requiring admission in view of PALF in department. Well informed written consent was obtained from parent of every study subject and it was ethically cleared from the institutional ethical committee. We have undertaken this study with the aim to evaluate the aetiology, presentation, and outcome in acute liver failure in children aged 0-18 years in low to middle income countries like India, which could help us in formulating new treatment modalities and preventive measures as per the need in Indian population. The demographic data, presenting complaints and signs, laboratory parameters, etiological diagnosis were analysed and outcomes were analysed as survivors (discharged) and non-survivors (death), transplant. We studied total 31 children aged between 0-18 years with biochemical evidence of PALF with coagulopathy not corrected by vitamin K (or other intervention intended to correct coagulopathy), the mean age of the children was 85.17 months. There were eight infants.
