Coronary heart disease (CHD) is caused when cholesterol carried in blood form plaque in the covering of coronary arteries leading to atherosclerosis. The diminished nitric oxide (NO) production and inflammation are involved in the development of atherosclerosis. The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis is implicated by decreased availability of NO.
