Background: Since the advent of laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation, a variety of medication regimens and techniques have been used occasionally to attenuate stress responses. Present study was aimed to assess effects of oral melatonin and oral clonidine on the attenuation of pressor responses to laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation as well as their effect on perioperative sedation. Material and Methods: Present study was prospective, comparative study, conducted in patients aged 20 to 60 years of either sex, ASA 1 and ASA 2 patients, scheduled for different elective surgical procedures under GA, Patients were randomly assigned to 2 groups M and C, Group M received tablet Melatonin 6 mg orally and Group C received tablet Clonidine 0.2 mg orally.
