Clinical Profile of Patients Presenting with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Abstract

Background Myocardial infarction (MI) is a principal cause of hospitalisation & mortality globally. Data available to characterise myocardial infarction has been limited. This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients exhibiting acute myocardial infarction. Methods The present descriptive retrospective research was done among 53 patients at department of medicine of a tertiary care centre during the study period of one year. Demographic features cardiovascular risk factors, clinical presentation, incidence of episode & Electrocardiogram (ECG) findings were noted. Outcome were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0 Results Maximum patients were in the age group of 61-70 years (37.7%). Male patients (75.4%) were more as compared to female patients (24.5%). Most patients had BMI in the range of 25.0-29.9 (58.4%). 13.2% had diabetes, 20.7% had hypertension, 20.7% had habit of smoking, 77.3% had positive family history, 60.3% had LDL >100 mg/dL , 54.7% ahd DL <40mg/dL & 45.2% had triglyceride >150 mg/dL. 100% patients had chest pain , 20.7% patients had dysponea, 5.60% had atypical pain & 3.7% had syncope. 26.4% patient had NSTEMI & 73.6% patient shad STEMI. Conclusion STEMI was the predominant form of myocardial infarction. The majority of the patients were male, & the predominant risk factor associated with myocardial infarction was a positive family history.
