Abstract

Lichen planus (LP) is a papulosquamous disease characterized by purple, itchy papules affecting about 1% of people, particularly younger and middle aged individuals. The exact cause is unknown but may involve immune responses to various exogenous antigens. Recent research has explored links between LP & infections, notably Hepatitis C virus. Some studies suggest connection between LP & HCV, while other does not. Establishing this link is essential for guiding routine HCV testing in LP patients, potentially improving timely diagnosis & treatment. This study found no link between LP and HCV. This might be due to low prevalence of Hepatitis C infection in India as compared to other countries, genetic differences or other etiological causes specific for LP.
