Abstract

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy holds the distinction of being one of the most frequently performed laparoscopic surgeries worldwide. Ensuring the safety of this procedure remains paramount in minimizing associated morbidity and mortality. A significant change in approach has transpired, moving away from extensive Calot's dissection and toward the identification of Rouviere's sulcus, accompanied by reduced dissection. Identifying and analyzing Rouviere's sulcus aims to enhance cholecystectomy's safety and prevent potential bile duct harm. Methods: Ethical approval was obtained from the hospital's ethics committee. A total of 132 patients were included in the study after obtaining informed consent. Inclusion criteria comprised patients aged 16 years or older with uncomplicated gallstone disease scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Exclusion criteria included patients younger than 16 years, those with complicated gallstone disease, those undergoing open cholecystectomy, those with previous abdominal surgeries, and those with cirrhotic or chronic liver disease or those refusing consent.
