Abstract

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (Mets) is defined as the existence of central obesity, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hypertension and dyslipidemia. Prolidase, a member of Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), plays an important role in collagen metabolism and extracellular matrix remodelling. Altered Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMPs) isthe important factor in the pathogenesis of MetS.Subjects with MetS may be obese but all obese patients may not have MetS. Both MetS and obesity have been shown to have impacts on cardiovascular mortality and morbidity
