Comparative study of efficacy and safety profile of Duloxetine and Gabapentin in the management of chronic diabetic neuropathic pain

Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a prevalent, intricate, and severe consequence of diabetes, affecting up to 26% of people with the disease. The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effectiveness and safety profile of Duloxetine and Gabapentin in the management of chronic diabetic neuropathic pain. Methods: 60 patients were from the outpatient Department of Medicine, Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Pawapuri, Nalanda, Bihar, India. All gave their written consent to participate in the study. A detailed history was taken, and clinical assessments were conducted. The patients were followed up at 2 months and 3 months after starting the treatment, and changes in parameters such as the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ), 24-hour pain intensity (Likert pain scale), and visual analogue scale (VAS) were compared between the two groups.
