Abstract

This systematic review is aimed at studying the neuroprotective effects of newer glucose-lowering drugs such as SGLT2 inhibitors in ischemic stroke and other cerebrovascular events. Methods: The papers reviewed in this paper are literature reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials. Results: SGLT2 inhibitors have been known to have neuroprotective effects through other pathways like anti-inflammatory effects and cognitive function improvement but their impact on stroke risk is not very well understood. In addition, the study reveals that early and adequate control of diabetes can help minimize the chances of developing Alzheimer’s disease associated with it.
