Abstract

Introduction: Osteoporosis is a systemic disease characterized by micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue, low bone mass and skeletal fragility. Bone fragility is affected by bone remodelling, bone turnover, bone mineral density (BMD), and bone quality. BMD is measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), which is a surrogate measure of bone strength.
