.Abstract
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease with irreversible organ damage. Although fasting plasma glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin are used for screening to identify individuals with type 2 DM, in certain scenarios there may be spurious results. Iron and ferritin have been implicated in the pathogenesis of type 2 DM.
